"And turtles, of course ... all the turtles are free, as turtles, and maybe, all creatures should be."

Mike was released from the hospital today and is doing very well. He is able to move around with the help of a crutch. Both Mike and Raph will stay with Ann and E for a while as it is too difficult for Mike to get in and out of the sewer with his crutch, which must be done daily so that he can attend physical therapy. (Not to mention the sewer is no place for a healthy recovery.)

The surgery lasted all day, but the doctors were able to put Mike back together. Luckily this turtle is pretty resilient. He’ll be in the hospital for at least a week and then he’ll require home care and physical therapy. The doctors think it will be at least a month before he’s up moving around by himself, though Raph disagrees.

When Mike woke up from surgery, he found Ann had come to visit and had brought a book to read to him to pass the time: Skin Tight by Carl Hiaasen. [Ann, E, and Raph all agreed to take turns visiting Mike so he wouldn’t be alone all the time.]

Ann, E, Mike, and Raph were hanging out on the porch, chatting, when they were attacked by a large squirrel. Mike and Raph jumped into action, fighting off the squirrel and protecting the girls. In the end, the squirrel gave up and ran off. Ann and E were unharmed, though they were both angry that they had left their swords in Michigan–they would’ve like to help in the fight. Raph’s bandana was ripped, but he fared well compared to Mike, who was torn limb from limb. They rushed Mike to the hospital and he is in surgery. Only time will tell if he will make it.

The sword fight mishap of 2010 wasn’t the first time Stricken Ann has been seriously injured. Apparently, sometime between 1976 and 1980, she was seriously injured (probably in a car accident–since she has a lead foot). It appears she may also have been incarcerated (notice the ball and chain).

Jen got home from work to discover that Stricken Ann had gone off-roading in her Jeep… and crashed it. Thankfully, she was uninjured in the accident. However, she won’t be going anywhere for awhile and the Jeep will have to be towed to Ed’s Auto Body and Repair.

Stricken Ann went to the Dinosaur Gardens in Ossineke, Michigan, where she posed with many dinosaurs even though some of them tried to eat her. She likes to think that she’s a dinosaur wrangler (kinda like an alligator wrangler).

Breaking News: Stricken Ann was injured today when she and Stricken E got into a deadly sword fight. What began as a light fencing match, turned into a no-holds barred fight. The escalation of the bout seems to be due to competition alone, as there is no evidence of a personal conflict between them. After Ann’s left hand was sliced off by E’s cutlass, Ann was rushed to a local hospital. Emergency surgery was successful in reattaching her hand, though she will wear a cast for awhile and not be able to fence competitively for the remainder of the year. When asked if she held E responsible for the incident, Ann said, “Not at all. It happens.” The swords were Christmas presents, given to the Strickens in 2008.
