Paw Print Ornaments

DSCN5038-1

I saw these ornaments on Pinterest and they were so easy I had to make them. From left to right: Toby, Rodney, Auggie.

6th Day of Christmas

On the sixth day of Christmas, I made dog treats for all of Toby and Rodney’s “friends”. The red treats were made with beets and the green ones with spinach. The tan ones are peanut butter based.

Treats for My Sweets

I have been wanting to make homemade dog treats ever since my friend Carly told me that she makes them for her dogs. I thought it would be so much easier than reading the ingredients lists on the packages at the store. Corn and chicken are in everything for dogs and it makes it difficult finding inexpensive snacks for Toby and Rodney.
From left to right: blackberry treats, blackberry and liver treats, and mint treats.

I’m hoping the mint treats will help with their fish breath. We bought half a cow last spring and with it came the liver, which we had always planned to use for dog treats since neither Ashley nor I will eat liver.

The blackberry treats I adapted from a recipe I found online. I had already thawed blackberries for the liver treats, so I used those instead. I followed the recipe pretty closely, except I left out the chicken and I didn’t use quite all of the flour. I baked them as directed, took the pan out of the oven, flipped the treats over, and then put them back in the oven for a couple hours at 200 degrees so they would be crunchy and could be stored in a jar at room temperature.

The liver treats contain just blackberries, liver, and whole wheat flour. I cooked the liver in the crockpot over night and then chopped it up and mixed it with the pureed blackberries and enough flour to make a dough. I think next time instead of chopping up the liver, I’ll just throw it in the food processor.

For the mint treats I used this recipe, though I left out the garlic. Some people think garlic can be harmful to dogs, others say it isn’t. I’d rather not take the chance.

Poor Rodney

He really, really wanted to play with the stuffed monkey that Dennis bought Toby for his birthday. I’m going to have to get Rodney his own monkey.

Dog Park

I got out of work early yesterday and it was such a beautiful day that I decided to take Rodney to the dog park. He loved it. He got to meet a few other dogs and play with them. Dennis even came out to visit. Here is a picture of Rodney running full out. I took some video, but it wasn’t very good… maybe next time.

Rodney & the Fly

Rodney cracks me up. When he sees a fly, he will chase it all over the house. When it lands and doesn’t move for a while, he gets mad. After all, how can he play with it, if it sits just out of reach?
